Some weddings announce themselves with scale. Sonia and Bartolo’s Riu Palace Costa Mujeres wedding did the opposite: twenty-six guests, one white floral arch, and an ocean wide enough to make everything else feel quiet. Their brief for the day was short. Have fun, capture the moments, keep it simple. That brief shaped every frame.
The morning moved at an easy pace. Sonia went from the spa to her room, and the details came quickly: the dress, the rings, the veil edged in pearls, a bouquet of pink and white roses waiting on a table. Then we walked out toward the center of the resort for the moment she had asked for more than any other.

A first look in the center of the resort
A first look is a strange and wonderful thing to photograph, because nothing about it can be staged. Bartolo, in a light suit with a pink tie and vest, and Sonia, carrying those roses beneath her veil, met in the middle of the resort. What we photograph in a first look is the reaction nobody can direct: the pause, the long look, the laugh that arrives before anything else does. By the time they walked toward the ceremony, they had already had their private moment, and it showed.
At four o’clock the ceremony began on the Terrace, beneath a white floral arch with palm trees on one side and open blue water on the other. Guests tossed white petals into the air as the couple walked the aisle hand in hand. The diamond on Sonia’s finger caught the afternoon light in every close portrait that followed, and the kiss under the arch, with the Caribbean behind them, needed no direction at all.
Golden hour, then the Glass Box
A guest list of twenty-six gives a wedding day room to breathe, and we used it. As the afternoon softened, Sonia and Bartolo spun across the green lawn, laughing, and then stepped into the last orange light for silhouettes against the sky. Cocktails followed on the Terrace at six, and the reception moved to the Glass Box at seven.
Dancing was what the couple were most looking forward to, so we planned the evening around it. The formal moments stayed short, and the dance floor got the time it deserved. It is the kind of choice that separates a wedding gallery you have to explain from one that explains itself.
Sonia and Bartolo’s hashtag said it plainly: #marriedtheloveofmylife. After a day like this one, the photographs agree.
